Before You Take My Advice

When I originally started BandVox, it was meant to be purely reviews of Celtic punk music. It was a given that most of my reviews and recommendations would be for albums that would not be radio friendly. Often, the vocalists of the bands I like have less than stellar voices, and the music itself is not polished. This is not always the case, and when I notice a professional sounding voice or music, I’ll mention it. For example, Josh Davis and Claire Portman of JD and the Longfellows have great voices and I tend to discuss their voices often throughout the first album review.
I focus more on the heart, or at least the beat of the music. The more a band can draw me in to their music, or story, point of view, or whatever, the more I’m likely to appreciate it. This is why you won’t often find the highly polished, popular groups on BandVox. The more music is polished, the more worth you lose.
Also, celtic punk bands have a tendency to not be family friendly, either in language or in message. Eventually I may make an at-a-glance rating system to allow for better searchability, but I have not set one into place yet.
I’m expanding BandVox to include all Celtic music, and branch out beyond album reviews. This may take some time as BandVox is still just a labor of love. Despite the ads you see, I’m not making any money. In fact, with the cost of the domain and hosting, I’m losing money on this site. Hopefully you will keep this in mind if I don’t update as often as you’d like, or if my opinions differ from yours.
What it boils down to is this: The opinions expressed here are my own. Your milage may vary. Suggestions are welcome, donations are even more welcome. If I’ve introduced you to a performer/band that you love, please let me know. That’s what BandVox is here for.
BandVox does accept review copies of cds, but reviews are not guaranteed unless cleared beforehand. Agreement to review cds does not guarantee a positive review. All reviews are still my opinion, and my opinion only.
